Drum pad triggers for Resolume Arena Control

Hi,
I have just come on board a project where I need to be able to use the midi outputs from different drum pads (at least 4 and possibly 6) and trigger clips and control effect parameters in Arena.
I know this is possible with Ableton but in order to minimise issues with latency and technical problems that could happen live, my collaborator is very keen to bypass Ableton and find a way where I could just connect an audio interface to my laptop directly and use the audio data coming in to control Resolume.
I've tried to do a bit of research online and I'm not seeing many possibilities. Are there any ideas or leads people could direct me to?
