Ah so I went back to not using Beat Snap just to double check, and the issue is actually different than what occurs with Beat Snap. I guess I got more familiar with the post-Beat Snap issue than the pre-Beat Snap problem.

What occurs when Beat Snap is off is that there isn't any looping, but the timing slowly drifts out of phase with the beat. If I turn 1/4 Beat Snap on the Composition it starts looping again, but less often than the clip level Beat Snap.

My final use case uses Ableton Link to get the beat from Rekordbox, but the issue persists even when Ableton Link is turned off. The problem is more obvious when there's music so here's a few examples.

Drift with beat snap turned off: https://vimeo.com/473267823

Loop with 1/4 Beat Snap on Composition level: https://vimeo.com/473268651

The loop happens at 1:02

Are you using Rekordbox on the same machine?
Which app do you start first, Rekordbox or Resolume?
Are they using the same audio device, and is it set to the same settings in both apps?

Yes they're on the same machine.

I have audio output set to No Device on Resolume.

I don't know which program I started first for each of the tests.

I'm going to create a video without Rekordbox to show the drifting independent of Ableton Link.

I made two videos using only the first three clips of the sequence.

When I don't use Ableton Link I no longer get any looping, but I do get drift both when Beat Snap is off and when I turn Beat Snap to 1/4 bar on the Composition level. My only setting is BPM Sync on the three clips.

In these videos I added a green "B" for two frames starting on every "1" beat of the BPM counter, and I added a red "B" for when my 1st and 3rd clips get activated. Remember, the clips are set up as 2 beats, 2 beats, 4 beats; so the 1st and 3rd clips should land on the "1" beat.

Note: There is sometimes a 0-2 frame (at 30fps so 0-66ms) lag between the clip activation and the monitor output, but I ignore that since the issue is bigger than a mere 2 frame difference. I use the clip activation in my analysis over the monitor output to discount this lag.

No beat snap: https://vimeo.com/473610851

1/4th Composition level beat snap: https://vimeo.com/473614027

The latency starts at 1-2 frames, then slowly drifts to 9-10 frames by the end. It would keep going if I let it.

I'll add that the looping I was seeing earlier clearly is just a symptom not the cause. It was just the Beat Snap correcting the drift. What's odd is that I don't see looping with the Composition level Beat Snap. The only time that the clips stay on beat is when Ableton Link is enabled, but instead of drifting, looping is introduced.

Composition level beat snap setting won't do anything if the clips are set to "None" as in your video.
There is the "Composition determined" option on the clips which will look for the composition setting and apply that to the clip.

If you enable Show FPS in the Output menu, what kind of values do you see in the preview monitor?

Can you try the same clips, restarting the machine, and only starting Resolume. No other apps which might use audio?

Ah okay, so my two videos are testing the same thing then.

30.00, rock steady

I ran another experiment after doing this using the 1 bar, 1/2 bar, 1 bar original Beat Snap configuration. I still saw looping, but this time it was very rare (I sometimes had to wait a few minutes to catch it).

Hmm, the looping doesn't want to happen for me.
Could you collect and send us the composition with these footages to mail@resolume.com so we can give them some tests with your exact settings?
Thanks!

Sorry, I'll be able to get to this soon. This week was... interesting for us in the USA as I'm sure you've heard.

Got your mail with the files.
Letting it run for an hour or so, the clips indeed don't start at the same beat any more fro me either.
I'll create ticket, we'll see what we can do about this.
