Project over data path fx4 with slices/mask/???

Post by jaydeeshow »

Hi Guys,

I have a show via data path set to 3840x2160

I need to set up 4 projectors via CAT6 on separate walls.
Each projector is WUXGA and it'll be mounted on its side (portrait mode).
(I've already tested them for 12 hours, and apparently, they don't go off)

Now, I'm not sure which workflow to use.
SETUP time is about 8 hours.

Each wall is slightly curved inside (See attached file A)
And we will have a physical shape on the front (See B)

We have on board a CGI artist not familiar with mapping.

I and others Resolume users have evaluated some solutions, but I'm always open to someone who maybe had similar projects.

We've been talking pros and cons about slices, mask, input mask, and polygon... but I'm not sure if giving the height and distance and lens of the projector to the animator can help, once on location adjust the position until it's perfect it's the best and fastest way to go.

Any Tip?

(Ta make fit 1920x1200 into the data path... should I force the resolution with switchRes ?

Thank you in advance, these covid years made me again a newbie :(

Best,

I don't think the projector will be in a good position there if you expect people to walk there.

You can adjust for the wall curve in the output transformation, you probably need to curve the edges inside on your slices to correct for the distance/size increase.

You'll have focus issues because of the different distances to the lens, but that can't really be fixed, so expect it to happen.

The whole thing will look really different from different view positions.

I mentioned the focus issue to the client, and no one will pass there.

Thank you, Zoltan.

I'm back on this project, and I solved most of the mapping issues, now I'm dealing with my FX4, and wondering if any firmware update made it possible to use 4 1920x1200
composition 3840x2400px and in resolume my composition will be 2400x3840. The extra 120px would fill the entire wall... instead, I would have some space left. The alternative is to plug all 4 HDMI (2 DP adapters) and my GUI via usb3.0.
The last time I tried with HDMI dummies it crashed that's why I'm reluctant.
Is there any good and reliable DP adapter DP to 2 HDMI?

The projector probably can do some scaling.

Not sure what is going on.
I have just reproduced in 5 mins your entire setup.
FX4 with 4x 1920x1200 outputs, 3840x2400 DP input and resolume project to match.

Alll I will say is that my experience configuring FX4's has been a bit weird.
In TV studios we can have multiple, identical (hardware and firmware) units piled up and some times, one unit during setup will just refuse to take the same identical config as the rest(we can literally configure one, then move the usb cable down the stack and just send the config with no editing). When it happens we end up just going through a cycle of rebooting, re-sending config, head scratching, factory resetting, swearing and insulting it then repeating over and over till the stars align and it decides to do like the rest of it's friends do and work.
Once configured, they are rock solid. Just some times, at config, weird things can happen. Never worked out why.

Hi,

the gig went very well. but I wasn't able to do 3840x2400... not even in 5 mins. lol.

I want to believe it's a different fx4. Mine was the first one released.

Anyway, thank you for your support.
