Hey All,

I'm looking to get into Resolume (mobile dj). Using is it on a LED wall.
Would like a touch screen making it easier to navigate around as it's not my primary focus

I was looking into a Dell XPS 15
Specs:
13th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-13700H (24 MB cache, 14 cores, up to 5.00 GHz Turbo)

I mainly work with 1080p / 720p content of one output. I am wondering if i need to spend the extra on the 4070 or would the 4050 suffice especially since dell limits them to 40watts of gpu TPU.

I personally advise people to start with the 60 series of nVidia (2060,3060,4060). The 70's are great but I haven't seen too much of a performance jump from the 60's to the 70's. There is a performance jump from the 60's to the 80/90's but it you're not dealing with 4k+ or 3 outputs and a ton of layers and fx, the 60/70 series would be great. Anything with TI after the GPU is great as well but the TI's run a little hotter so make sure your machine has good thermals. The 30 series are still amazing GPU's and have come down in price now that the 40 series is out (I think my 3080ti holds up just fine against my 4080).

I would advise on getting a laptop with at least 32Gb of system memory and a processor with at least 4 cores and a base clock around 2,500-4,000Mhz. Your CPU will help when using non DXV3 files and any sort of NDI or DMX you might be using as well.

When dealing with DXV3 video files sufficient storage is needed as well. nVme drives are the way to go here, I would start out with 1Tb of storage to give yourself plenty of growing room.

i_o is key, so make sure you have enough ports or ways of expansion if needed. TB3/4 ports are great. If you're dealing with multiple video outputs, do you have options with your new machine? Things like this to consider.

Durability and cooling. How long will this machine last you when running it hot? can it take getting thrown around during travel?

What is great about the dell is both the SSD and RAM are both upgradable so I can add down the line for future proofing.
The deal you posted is a good one but with black friday im looking at 2099 for a rtx4050 or 2399 for a 4070... This is of course in CAD since im in Canada. The one you posted would come out to roughly 2600 converted which is more or less the price of a newer machine +20%cpu power.
