Play/Pause LAYER using OSC

Hello

We have a setup that we control using companion. Great so far. The background(base) layer is full of animation clips. I want to be able to pause ANYTHING on that LAYER with one press.

Global transport controls aren't an option as this prevents anything else being launched or cleared via companion buttons.

Global transport DOES pause the animations, but it also pauses EVERYTHING else.

Anything I'm missing?

Oh wait, I found layer transport controls.

One thing to take into account is that the layer transport controls only show the transport controls from your selected clip inside that part it is not a general layer control.

My solution would be to group that layer in a group and then automate the speed of the group with companion. If you switch between zero and one speech, it will go from pause to play.

Hope that helps you out

Thanks for this!

I think it will be okay to use this way as they'll only be selecting one clip during a set period. Having a transport for the layers selected clip is definitely better than the global transport, in terms of intended use.

Will look into the grouping though. Seems like it could be useful for something else!

Is there a way to get a feedback to say if the currently selected clip is played or paused?

Hi Sanial,
If you’re only using one clip per scene on that layer, you can rely on the built-in layer transport via OSC. But if you anticipate switching multiple clips or want to future-proof, group the layer and automate the group’s speed offers a clean, robust solution.
