i edit clips in final cut, and currently have a very long drawn out process to encode them to indeo/mjpeg which goes as follows:

edit in fcp, normally in native resolution of dv pal, export to a pal .mov file
import into vegas, export as a pal .avi
import into virtualdub and export as a indeo/mjpeg

obviously this is a pain in the arse and its discouraging me from making new clips as it takes so long, so any ideas how i can cut my workflow down? ideally i'd export from fcp and open the file immediately in res, but i guess that might be too much to ask for

i also know that with res 3 coming out, there's no point in encoding clips to indeo as there's not a chance in hell of it working on mac..

Well, first off, you can export from Vegas into any codec supported by VirtualDub - it uses exactly the same Video for Windows (VfW) API. Not sure why you're not doing this directly.

Go to File, Render As..., choose AVI, press the Custom button, go to the Video tab, go to Video Format, choose Indeo or MJPEG or whatever you want, set all your settings appropriately (output resolution, pixel aspect ratio 1:1, no interlacing, etc) and SAVE THIS AS A TEMPLATE so you don't have to do it over and over again. I have templates set up for VJ @ 640x480 and VJ @ 320x240.

Also, if you have Vegas, why are you using Final Cut at all? The two programs are not that different, (in fact Vegas is MUCH better at some things - managing different resolutions and framerates on the same timeline, compositing, sound) and if you just used Vegas, you could just export straight to MJPEG in AVI directly.

I've been using Vegas to prepare footage for Resolume for years, and frankly it doesn't get much easier. Just load a bunch of footage, mark off regions for everything that I want to use as a clip, and then use the batch export script to render them in one shot.
