Audio FFT Analysis in Resolume 3

We are now working on the audio FFT analysis in Resolume 3. We have always been happy with the way this works in Resolume 2 so we are thinking about implementing it the same way in Resolume 3 with the addition that you can choose between external audio (the same as in Resolume 2) but also composition and clip audio.

But we are wondering if you guys have any wishes for the audio analysis, let us know!

bpm detection would be fantastic :)

Yeah but humans are better real-time beat detectors than software ... tap tap tap tap ;-)

Hi Bart,

See this link. I think it gives ideas for future innovations in the Audio Analysis.

It would be nice to select the exact part of the graphic that you want a command function of video:

Here with 3 comands:

this 3 comands in action:

With the revolution that is the Avenue, I think this plug-in (TRAPCODE Sound Keys) is essential for new creations in After Effects.

Sorry for my english, translated in web... :)

YAY! cant wait for audio analysis in 3!
yep works great in 2, some finer control would be a bonus, but also being able to have a channel that changed with the total volume level ... could be useful for cutting the composition opacity (etc...) when the DJ goes all mute on us.

I would like to see something like VDMX or that trapcode plugin where you can target specific parts of the incoming sound stream visually and attach said targets to functions within Resolume. :ugeek:

Audio fft analysis from resolume 2 it's just fine , but it's time to push this quality a bit further ... like in other software.

I like the example of the TrapCode soundkeys a lot - in particular I like how it can generate discrete events, not just continuous values.

it opens up the possibility of having an assignable control for "trigger random clip" where you could trigger clips on a kick drum or a snare.

i experienced the audio analysis in resolume 2 as too nervous. it woks fine with drum and bass, but its more influenced of the overall volume, instead of picking up the snare or the bassdrum. it has to be less chaotic and more smooth.

Wow - this is what I have been waiting for - really cannot wait for this ... I have been doing some experiments with processing and audio analysis and in my experiments learned that different analysis frequencies were better suited to different situations.

FFT is really mathematically complex - but what if the new FFT could allow the saving of different presets for different frequency bands. Then pumps the modified data set into the standard resolume FFT / flash variables. This could be very interesting.

ie: FFTConfig>
min frequency: 20hz
max frequency: 50hz

Especially if this could be defined at the layer lavel - so you could have a layer of clips which are all fine tuned to reacting to specific freqencies. This is just a thought ...

Another question - can the FFT / Flash Var data be pumped straight to a Flash class that can be instantiated whenever required by any flash clips wishing to be affected by the FFT data. This would provide the most efficient access of this data by Flash -> cos AS3 root access is a kind of hell and a bit of a no no... This class could then be the document class/ or an extended class for any resolume flash content and would allow any additonal classes to access and react on the document class data. I think I have a test class somewhere that I never managed to get working with Resolume 2 ... which I would be happy to update and provide for the use of this software.

Will the Flash Variables be the same as Res2 Flash variables ...?

What with the 25% discount - I am in ... Bart glad you decided to keep the FFT after a previous POST said you may drop it ... !!! :D :D :D
