Which is better for resolume? A xeon or a p4? Both run at the same ghz ... In general a xeon can do more heavy loads of work, but would it benefit in resolume or not?
Also the p4 has a faster fsb...?

the xeon processor generally has much more cache memory, whcihc can make them significantly faster than a p4 of the same speed. However, if it has a slower bus speed, you might lose that advantage

The benefit of the Xeon is: you can get 2 in a board, and turn Hypertrading Off
and you can get a 64 bit xeon at 800mhz FSB, just a question of money

why wouldn't you get an ATHLON Fx-55 for resolume ? nothing would beat that ! it's what i'm eventually putting in a shuttle !

afaik resolume doesnt take advantage of 64 bit yet, so im not sure the speed increase would be the 'best' you could get, unfortunatly we will just have to wait to see if 64 bit is supported by resolume anytime soon.... another problem i have heard about is that the openGL drivers in windows 64bit are not all that good, so that might need to be sorted out before resolume would be able to go 64bit.

i hear what you're saying levon,
BUT all the benchmarks for the FX-55 are in a 32 bit enviroment AND they BEAT all the competing Intel chips !
so i'm guessing the AMD chip will also beat the INTEL chip in a 32 bit enviroment when running resolume !
would that be a fair comment ?
