some .swf's don't play on particular hardware

Post by SynR »

I've just discovered an unusual problem on my new hardware with several versions of Resolume. (This problem does not happen on my other hardware with the same versions of Resolume)

ie. some .swf's do not play. Actually most don't play. Of the 30 or so .swf's I have, only one plays and it only plays in channel 3 (F2). The .swf's play in IE.

I suspect it may be the XT600 PCIE ATI graphics card drivers. I am trying with different drivers (Catalyst/DNA/NGO) to find which one fixes the problem.

Any comments appreciated.
Thanks

you do have flash installed dont you??? you need the flash player for internet explorer for resolume to be able to play flash files.

Uh, yah!
I have a ghost image of my hard-drive, after I installed everything resolume needs, and just prior to install of the vga drivers. So after the ghost image has restored, the first thing it asks for is VGA drivers.

With the windows default vga drivers, the flash files (resolume\flash\) play ok. Can you believe that?

Since my last post, I restored the ghost image 7 times and installed no less than 7 different ATI Radeon drivers (MSI, DNA, NGO, ATI) with the same result each time-

The flash files do not play with any of the drivers I tested.

I guess this must be an ATI bug (I knew I shoulda bought an Nvida card!)

I think I found the cause of the problem. The WDM (Multi-media) ATI capture drivers. I
don't understand how these can affect the playback of .swf's, but once the capture driver is initialized, the .swf's no longer play.

Which do I need more? Flash. Definately.

I'll use another capture card with it's own drivers for input.

I hope this thread helps other people later. :)

That last posting was by me (forgot to login)
Now that I have installed a Lifeview TV card, I find that when I initialize the driver using IUVCR, then the flash files won't play in Resolume. If I leave the capture driver un-initialised, then .swf's play in Resolume.
This problem has me really confused.
What relationship is there between capture drivers and flash play?
If anyone knows that answer I would be very appreciative.
Thanks in advance.

I'd love to login as Synr, but can't. So here is the final word on my problem, now that it is solved. It was an IUVCR problem! I am now using AmCap to initialize the capture drivers on both the ATi and the Lifeview - and now the .swf's play just fine. Yay.
