A late reponse about the Recording preference button (yes, this one, on your screen capture) :

- this RECORD preset preference icon, when pressed, open the general preference window, BUT on the CLIP RENDERING line, and not on the RECORDING line.

Using a vst tone generator as un instrument, inside Resolume, is a (strange :-)) great idea.

I'm actually working on a project called "Chromatrop' Project", giving a new digital life to a collection of old chromatropes.

Ok I've found something :

in MIDI device preference, i have the focusrite USB MIDI input ON (of course), and clock Input ON .
When desabled, the midi notes work fine.

For info, The midi signal come from FL Studio on an other PC.
In the past, 7.17 version, I had problem with Resolume loosing the ...

I've just reinstalled the last 7.18.1 and sent you the log file.

Since the 7.18.0 (and 7.18.1), here is a strange bug :

Midi input coming from a Focusrite scarlet 4i4 is not played in reslolume Avenue.
In the new Midi monitor window, midi notes are recognised, I can see Note off Note on etc in real time...
But notes are not recognized when playing ...

A new life for this old chromatrop from the end of the 19th century !

- in the new RECORD window, the parameter icon at the right of the PRESET field send to the "Clip rendering Preference" and not to the "Recording Preferences".
