If you open the folder with Adobe Bridge that comes with Photoshop you can see the thumbnails. The other option is to enable thumbnails in the Avenue browser.

You might try going to the control panel, selecting "system configuration" and then selecting "diagnostic startup". You then have to restart the computer.
