Solution: Linking Composition Dashboard Dials to Layer Dashboard Dials (and other stuff)

Post by subpixel »

New today: jigged a solution for Windows using MIDI-OX and virtual midi devices provided by loopMIDI.

Create two virtual devices with loopMIDI. In Resolume, configure #1 for input, and #2 for output. In MIDI-OX, route #2 to #1.

In Resolume, if you set up two Dashboard dials with the same MIDI channel and CC number, they will be linked. This works between Layer Dashboard dials and the Composition Dashboard dials. Indeed it should work for any MIDI-mappabble slider/dial-type parameters.

This "solution" is very flaky. I'm not getting consistent results, and the latest weirdness is Resolume is continuously sending CC 00 on channel 1, for what reason I cannot tell as there is no 1/00 entry in the Shortcuts panel. Edit: The main opacity slider for Layer 1 (by position) is CC 1/00. Not animated/changing, though, so not sure why it is sending continuously.

I've also seen a Composition Dashboard dial controlling a Layer parameter which was mapped to a Layer Dashboard dial but where the Dashboard Dial doesn't register as changing. I think I may have found a can of bugs/worms.
