framerate difference between virtual and screen

Post by VJConvex »

Hello Resolume warriors!
troubleshooting some fps problems
got a composition with 9 layers. if i'm pushing it using a lot of effects i get around 60 fps, but usually 70 fps when using a virtual output. sadly, as soon as i switch the virtual output for a real screen or projector everything drops to around 30. I understrand there might be a difference but it shouldn't be this high and i
I got a rather decent machine with a recent i7, GTX1070, 16gb ram and running all content (DXV3.0) from an M.2 SSD.

I've tried the following:
- checking framerates in both nvidia control panel and windows to set to 60hz
- turning on and off Vsync
- trying different monitors / projectors
- trying different cables
- checking in power settings if performance is set to maximum
- yes, the laptop is connected to the power
- trying 60fps clips and 30fps clips
none of this seems to make a difference in the behaviour, as soon as i send my output to an external screen the fps plummets

would be great if you could help me, thanks for your time

Sounds like the external output might be connected physically to the integrated GPU, which means that the texture needs to be transferred to the other GPU. Doing so, will come with a greater performance hit, than enabling the output to the renderer card.

You can check this by enabling Show Display info in the Output menu.
The GFX card in the list is which the output is connected to, and the renderer should be the 1070.
