Clip Start Offset affects solo audio & vid+audio clips

Post by cosmowe »

Hello Folks,
with 4.2 has come a huge performance boost. They reduced the micro stuttering very noticeable in timeline clips with fluid motions. It's still not perfect...especially in first seconds after a clip is triggered...but after the initial phase it stays smooth most of the time.

I figured out a little trick so that video only clips even start smooth straight from the beginning.
Set the "Clip Start Offset" in the preferences to the minimum of 9 ms...and you will notice that the clips starts smooth directly after you trigger them.

I've tested this behaviour with two Win7 pc's. both i7...one with a AMD 7970 M and the other with a nVidia gtx 970. The little trick worked on each machine.

BUG:
This trick works fine as long as you don't use any audio in your show. Solo audio clips or video clips with added audio are not re-trigger-able. You will notice a little graphic glitch in the playhead section of the clip...and the playhead keeps running from the position he was at that time you triggered the clip.

When you set the clip from restart to continuous mode the playhead randomly jumps around when the clip is re-triggered.

RECREATE IT:

- Open a new clean composition
- Add a DXV clip
- Add a solo wav audio clip
- Add another DXV clip and drag'n drop a audiofile from the explorer onto it.
- Set all clips to timeline playback, Restart mode, and turn beat snap off
- Go to the preferences and set the "Clip Start Offset" to any value you like.
- Trigger the clips you added before...and you will notice the issue I described above.

Best wishes

Awesome. We ran into this bug before, but after clearing the prefs, it went away and we couldn't figure out how to get it back.

So the clip offset was the missing ingredient. Awesome detective work, Cosmowe!
