Hello all,
New user to the forum and also to Resolume. I have been getting great results with my currently laptop, an HP i5 with AMD Radeon graphics and Windows 7. Output so far has been done with a single projector and vga out.
My question is for future expansion. My laptop had hdmi and vga out,and I'm assuming I cannot use both and the laptop screen at the same time. I may want to add an additional projector/screen. What would be the best method to do this with the current laptop? An adapter? Are Display Link adapters a problem on Windows PC's? Is the Club 3D SenseVision an option? It says it supports open GL?
I tried searching on the forum but couldn't find anything conclusive.
Thank you in advance for your responses.
Add additional screens with current system. Advice needed
Re: Add additional screens with current system. Advice need
I have a business class Asus laptop that has HDMI, Display Port and VGA out. I know it'll support at least two outputs at once. It has dual GPU's. I would assume your's is a single output but I would definitely test before dropping money on anything. If you want a rock solid solution I would suggest you get a dual/triple head2go.

"All in all the MST boxes are a cheap alternative to what Matrox has to offer, and can support up to 3 times 1920x1200. But with compatibility issues and the startup process not completely hassle free, we wouldn’t recommend this for permanent installs. If you have a compatible graphic card and are looking for a cheap way to considerably extend your output, you can’t beat the price. Just be prepared for a little more hassle during your setup process."

Too bad a mst hub requires displayport. You mentioned hdmi and vga out only.
I would assume you can use both as amd is well known for multiple displays. Finding an old matrox vga box for super cheap would be the lowest cost that suits your system as hdmi isn't likely to shoot out the dvi resolution you require.

Re: Add additional screens with current system. Advice need
Thanks for the replies. I will certainly experiment with the current outputs. Had I known at the time, I would have made sure it had a display port, but unfortunately it does not.
The Matrox Dual head vga isn't so expensive as compared to a new laptop. Thank you for the suggestion. Does the Matrox show in Resolume as two separate displays, or one large one? Are there any limitations (separate vs one screen)?
Thanks again.

Re: Add additional screens with current system. Advice need
It'll appear as one large screen unless you use the Matrox software. It just takes a little bit to get used to. It's not a big deal at all.
Re: Add additional screens with current system. Advice need
Thanks again! One other question. With the Matrox, are you still able to use the laptop display as well, for a total of three displays?
Re: Add additional screens with current system. Advice need
Yes, the computer will think that the dual head is one weirdly large screen and happily run both the internal and both external. The only warning I have is to make sure you aren't trying to push too many pixels for both the vga plug and your graphics card. The dual head can do 2 1024*768 or 2 1280*1024 pixel screens, but no higher.Vort wrote:Thanks again! One other question.
