overclocking

Post by VJ Nexus »

would overclocking my athlon 64 give me noticable performance? I've cooled my box so well, that I'm running my cpu well below the optimal temperature - and for the first time ever, the exhaust fans are blowing out cold air. I've played with a little overclocking in my life, and am able to push my cpu up about 400mhz, while remaining stable. I'm still a little hesitant to push it through resolume at this speed, but am willing to try it at 300mhz overclocked. Would this even make a difference? I don't have a harddrive bottleneck anymore, cleared that with multiple raid_0 arrays. Have always done my processing at 640x480 indeo5.1, with little frame loss - only gets down to about 19fps with 3 layers and effects, which is still fine as I enjoy the video quality...

Basically, has anyone played much with running an overclocked machine and resolume? mine is an athlon64 3000+ - stock at 2.0ghz (essentially 3.0ghz when compared to a p4 - but with better architecture and more direct ram communication) and I'm pushing it at 2399mhz right now (it's been rendering video for 3 days now without a single stall or crash)

my cpu temp has yet to reach over 52 degrees C

(don't try this at home unless you have a massive heatseak and excellent ventilation)

I'd have expected better performance from your setup as-is with 3 layers to be honest though can't be sure, mind you I'm not a big user of rt effects.

Why don't you try asking in an overclocking forum also.
