More layers = more resources used.
More columns = less columns used.
If your system isn't screaming I guess don't fix what's not broken?? But if you like to be optimized, and you are not needing to blend 100 pieces of content at once, loose the layers and replace with columns and your machine will thank you <3

I don't blend 100 layers)
After the end of repetition I can delete most of them, but Arena doesn't have option "Remove all above/below".

I thought if layer is not rendering, it not affect performance.

If you're not blending 100 at a time then you don't need them lol. IDK how much resources are used by disconnected clips into layers? I would assume that if a layer is disconnected it still has to be processed as it's apart of the overall mixer. It may just see no input and then move on, but that layer still has to be asked what's going on and that's processing.
Columns DO have remove before and after, so it sounds like columns are exactly what you are after!
Maybe change your comp mode to connect clips to the "Selected Layer" and then just select an open layer and click a clip. When you're done, just remove all after or before and you're ready for the next one.
You could add like 2-3 layer extra on top of the max amount you plan on blending just to have a few extra slots open to cue up clips, but 100 layers...... ppppffff... that's wild! ;)

Sounds logical. But most of time it working ok.

More performance drop I get from SliceTransform or other effects, especially when composition canvas size is big.

Ok, looks like I found problem.
I made this test comp with 109 * 20 solids) and one video (load any other).

https://dropmefiles.com/s51rl

All ok if transition time = 0.

If transition time > 0 (like on layer 109). When I trigger clip, I should wait some time (5sec now), before I can trigger another clip, edit parameter, etc. because UI is blocked.

P.S.
109 * 15 columns = partial UI blocking
109 * 14 columns = no UI blocking

Your composition is working just fine for me (on an old macbook too) I can trigger clips while a video is in transition.

Do you maybe have Midi shortcuts mapped too, to the transition times maybe?

Hmm, yeah I don't see any issues with the server on.

Can you try removing items form your setup, and check on vs off?
Maybe there is something we're not thinking of playing a role.

I tried with NDI on/off, there is not so much that I can remove, because it's almost blank composition. What if add more layers/columns? Maybe it's my ethernet card.

Do you see the FPS meter also drop the numbers, and footage stutter on your output?
