Windows Best Settings Practices?

Post by massta »

What is the secret recipe for keeping a Windows PC running smooth?

Have a Windows Enterprise running Arena 6 at a permanent installation. I just installed a new Quadro RTX and put in a Datapath FX4 but caught Arena stuttering really bad. I remoted into the machine and it froze. Reboot has me back to 60fps!

Should I schedule reboots? (had been about 7 days in the above case)
Uninstall Chrome? I've seen that is runs many services?

Anything else?

Thanks!

There might be something else wrong there if a remote connection freezes the machine.
I guess you also installed new drviers for the quadro, might be good to check those, or revert to an older version.
Also switch off background tasks, and startup items which will not be used.

Hi Zoltan,

Remoted into machine today and found Resolume running but unresponsive. The FPS was reading 0.52 but I couldn't disable output or anything, had to force a quite. The PC wasn't frozen during this. I checked Task Manager and Resolume was only using 13% of CPU and less and 0.5GB of memory.

I'll try an older GPU driver. Otherwise I'm not sure what is going on. For startup items, I just disabled:
Java Update Scheduler
Intel delayed launcher: IAStorlcon

The only apps aloud to run in the background are:
NVIDIA Control Panel
Windows Settings

I'll download an older GPU firmware for now but won't install until I know the starup disabling didn't work.

This is a solid walkthrough to get a show machine ready for permanent instalation:

Thanks @He2neg

I've definitely done a lot of these steps. How about using Windows 2021 IOT vs Pro 11?
I've use IOT 2019 with success. Its been stable with Updates turned off.
