Re: New MacBook Pro and Resolume

It's a spectacular machine except for that huge omission.

Most people don't care about gpu's though and what form factor, styling, battery life and screen quality (and aspect ratio, but the lack of 16:10 screens outside Apple products is a personal gripe) is concerned they are hard to beat.

They ...

If you press "more info" then it should say the exact model (mine is a "Mid 2010" for example).

Re: Random Playback Freeze

Ironically I used that method to remove the audio over a clip that was annoying me during testing earlier today (I rarely have audio hooked up during performance, at least, not with resolume) but it hadn't occurred to me to try it on that clip.

I tried it and it seems to fix the problem completely ...

Re: Random Playback Freeze

I don't really need the audio, I could encode the file without it.

I can't test MPEG stream clip right now but I'll give it a whirl, it's always good to try out new software, especially if it's free ;)

Re: Random Playback Freeze

Just tested it on my Macbook, same effect.

Specs:
Macbook Pro mid 2010
2.53 GHz Core i5
8 GB 1067 DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256MB
Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD
OS X 10.8.4
Resolume 4.1.7 (and 4.1.4, tried both)

Let me know if you can't reproduce it, I'll provide the file.

Is there any chance that ...

Re: Random Playback Freeze

Thanks for the info.

I checked again though, the problem occurs with DXV files as well.

The situation:
- Play a loop in DXV (12 seconds and change)
- Select a segment of the loop
- Select "Random Playback"

What happens:
- Will play fine for a while
- Will freeze on a frame (duration of the freeze ...

Re: New MacBook Pro and Resolume

I wouldn't say overly pedantic ;)

Point taken though.

I would think that it would still be a good thing to examine/review.The sudden shift away from dedicated gpu's is a game changer which could result in your user base moving away from macbooks or resolume (although I suspect resolume isn't the ...

Re: Random Playback Freeze

I'll keep an eye on when it happens. Normally I don't mess with the clips in h264 but it could be that I took a snippet from one to loop.

Maybe a nice work-around would be to press record on a partial clip to make a new clip on the fly. Does Avenue record in DXV by any chance?

Re: New MacBook Pro and Resolume

So setting aside that a discrete GPU is obviously a better choice the iris should perform reasonably well with Avenue but not particularly with Arena? (I use Avenue)

My 2010 Macbook is aging with grace (upgraded to 8GB of ram and a 256GB 840 pro SSD) and the new line-up isn't making it attractive ...

Re: New MacBook Pro and Resolume

I was hoping that we'd get an "official answer" to this (no offence programfeed ;) ) like the review the team did last year:
http://resolume.com/blog/9643/vj-review-of-the-new-retina-macbook-pro

The lack of a discrete GPU in a 2000+ euro machine (the "entry level" 15" retina) is frankly disturbing ...
