Arena freezing when moving effects around
Arena freezing when moving effects around
Above video shows my issue where all video freezes for a second when simply moving effects around. FPS and Stats display seem to recognize something very challenging is happening, however I never had this issue before and didn't expect to have it on this brand new high end machine.
Version 7.21.3
MacBook Pro M4 Max 16"
14 Core, 36gb RAM

How does CPU usage look like?
Which OSX, Tahoe?

Re: Arena freezing when moving effects around
Hey Zoltán!
The stats monitors jump around a ton in general. If you peak at that youtube link you can see the CPU and GPU bounce rapidly between 0% and 33%. Frame rate (set to 60 in the comp) shows as dropping to 15 but in reality drops to zero for a second or so whenever a new effect is clicked and dragged over a clip (not even applied), or an already applied effect is clicked and dragged up or down within the window. The clip doesn't have to be live; happens when in preview too.

I tied this on an M1 mac with a composition but was not able to recreate.
Does it happen in a new composition too, with only a few files loaded or playing?

Ah, you move effects from the effects panel.
I'll make a ticket.

Re: Arena freezing when moving effects around
Thanks, appreciate you investigating!
Re: Arena freezing when moving effects around
I did some additional testing and found that this issue only occurs on the latest macOS Tahoe.
Tested on MacBook Pro M4 Max (14-core CPU, 36GB RAM) and MacBook Pro M1
On macOS Sequoia → no freezing, everything works normally
On macOS Tahoe → freezes happen whenever moving effects (even just dragging, without applying them)
So it seems the problem is not hardware-specific, but macOS Tahoe–specific.
Just wanted to share this in case it helps with debugging.

Re: Arena freezing when moving effects around
Ditto, I just upgraded my MBP to Tahoe and am experiencing exactly the same issue where draggable items cause huge frame drops / lag spikes.
Happens when dragging any clips already on a layer (including copying with option), files from the files panel, effects from the effects panel, sources from the sources panel, etc. Dragging files in from finder does not cause the issue.
Looking at activity monitor strangely resource usage (CPU, GPU) goes down (110% > 20% CPU, 20% > 6% GPU) while triggering the bug.
Resolume Arena 7.32.2
Macbook Pro M3 Max / 48GB
MacOS Tahoe 26.2
