Blackmagic HD-SDI capture card outputs

Post by Oaktown »

Quick report from the battlefield!

We just did a big conference in San Francisco and due to a media server PSU failure, I had to reconfigure the whole system from a PC custom-built desktop onto a Macbook Pro.

In order to free up 2 HD video outputs to send signal to a switcher, I used OWC Mercury Helios 2 chassis with one Blackmagic Duo card to output two independent signals of HD video to two stacked HD projectors and one Blackmagic Studio 2 card to take an HD feed from a VideoHub.

We ran this setup from 09:30 to 19:30 with absolutely no issues!

Unfortunately, the latency was too much for us to use live feed but this new feature saved the day.

I also want to report that we had one day with the media server and Arena 5 was amazing. We could barely notice any latency and it was a complex setup:
  • BMD Cameras to BMD Television Studio (for livestream) to BMD Video Hub (for routing) to BMD ATEM 1 M/E (for switching) to Arena 5 (for mapping) to BMD SDI/Analog (for converting) to Christie Vivid White projectors' YPbPr inputs (for showing) and we could barely notice any latency (maybe 2-3 FPS!)
We had a similar setup last year with Arena 4.2 and you could definitely notice the latency. So whatever the Resolume Devs did to make Arena 5 better is working great!

BIG KUDOS to the whole Resolume team for making such a great piece of software :D :D
