Hows to work out best size for comp?

Post by texture1 »

Hi everyone

I know this is a very basic question but I just need some clarification. I have two projector outputs linked into Resolume. Each display is 1920 x 1200 and I have edge blended them together. What is the best size to have my over all comp. Also If I where to upload images/video to the best comp size what would be the best dimensions for the files ?

Thanks again for helping with this basic question

In this tutorial
http://resolume.com/software/tutorials#72656604
Composition is simply x*(horizontal projectors count) by y*(vertical projectors count).

Also, take a look at the post I wrote a while back as a follow up to the tutorial:

which I think may address your questions more specifically.

So you have 2 1920x1200 projectors. If you are going edge to edge you would just add the pixel width ie (1920x2)= 3840x1200

However, if you are blending (which is the more common application) then you need to determine your overlap amount to know what your composition size is. You will need to know the size of the screen that you will be projecting on. Let's say for example that your screen is 24 feet wide by 8 feet tall. 24/8=3 So three would be your aspect multiplier. To get your total pixel count for width you would multiply your pixel height (1200) by the aspect multiplier (3). That would give you the total width of 3,600 pixels. To find the overlap amount, now we just subtract the total width of the screen (3600) from the total width of both projectors (3840), and we get an overlap amount of 240.

The short answer is that you determine your composition size based on the screens you are displaying to.
I hope all of this helps.
