resolume arena 4 and 5, video stuttering, gtx 970,i7

Post by Jorunas »

Hi!
Have this problem, did a brand new install of windows 7 now when i try to play a video on vlc player for instance it's fine and smooth, however resolume seems twitchy and not smooth as a 60fps video should be, i tried both arena 4 and 5, also quicktime and dxv, still the same problem.

The video played is 1080p 60fps, runs on mac just fine. Also on vlc and media player, not resolume however

pc specs:
intel core i7 4770k
gtx 970
16gb ddr3
240gb ssd kingston

i tried swapping my graphics card for a hd5850, same problem, same lag.
CPU load is minimal as well as GPU

you can switch on an fps counter in the Output menu,
how is your fps?

what is the buffer size setting in the audio preferences? try changing it to see how it affects playback.

is your resolume/windows main display plugged into the motherboard display output?
If so, plug it into the dedicated video card, resolume renders on the card that runs the main display.
the onboard video will have poor perfomance.
Switch on the Show display info in the Output menu, set the output to something(eg. display 1 windowed), the renderer should be your most powerful card.

What's your motherboard? It could be that you don't have enough PCIe bandwidth or a bad PCIe slot.

Also are you sure your PSU has enough power to power your GPU underload? With both the GTX970 and HD5850 you should have at least 500W but I would recommend 650W especially if you have other peripherals and PCIe cards.

i have an MSI OEM pc, it's 600W PSU, and i don't use both cards at the same time, the Intel HD is disabled, only gtx 970 resources are use'd and under GPU-z it says 15% load, same for CPU.
there should be enogh bandwith as it's a PCIE 3.0 port, and even 4k video at 60fps with VLC runs fine, but not resolume..
