Arena dmx control with pc lighting surface?

Post by sparrowrat »

Hi,
wouldn't it be possible to patch the default resolume dmx addressing to a PC lighting controller without the need for a usb interface or dongle if both programs are running on the same computer?
Hmmm, :?:
Any thoughts?

You can send DMX between computers or desks that support it via ArtNet. ArtNet is a form of DMX over IP.

Officially, ArtNet does not allow the same computer that sends the DMX to also receive it. So using 127.0.0.1 as the target address is not possible in the official ArtNet protocol, and it's not possible in Resolume.

I use Luminair on an iPad to control Resolume using the Artnet/DMX protocol over WIFI and it works like a charm.

Using Artnet/DMX, you can even control more than one instance of Resolume if you map your own DMX for the composition which you'll find under the Mapping menu. If you remap your DMX make sure you turn off the DMX Auto Map under General Preferences.

In this case, dmx is being controlled bye a computer program that is sending signal through usb to a corresponding lighting desk that sends out to 4 universes. The same desktop is sending resolume video out hdmi.
So, for it to be possible to control resolume dmx I would need to connect an artnet interface to one of my universes and connect it via usb as well.
Is that correct?
Thanks, I appreciate the help.

Does your lighting console have an Artnet ouptut? If it does, you should be able to send DMX signal over ethernet without any adapters. If both devices are on the same network, all you have to do is set up the subnet and output port on your lighting console to match the subnet and input port on resolume.

Hi oak town I've been trying to do what you are doing and am having loads of intermittent flashing.
I know I'm making a mistake somewhere . I'm using one showjockey 4 output artnet device . I was trying to control my tubes and strips from Resolume and then my parcans and hue lights from luminair . Luminair outputting to lumiverse 1 and Resolume lumiverse 3 and 4 .
Have you any advice on how I could set this up better ? I was told I can't have both softwares connected to the same artnet device
Kind regards cormac
