Arena 5.1.4 has a 1-2 clip stutter when triggering a clip on a new layer

Hi everyone,

So I've just made the switch over from the Mac and one thing that I've noticed is that whenever I trigger a clip on an inactive layer, I get a 1-2 frame stutter. Lets say I have content playing on Layer 1, I can switch between clips on layer 1 seamlessly, but then if I bring a new clip on layer 2, that first clip will cause the entire composition to stutter a few frames, even the clip already playing on layer 1.

I'm using Arena 5.1.4 on Windows 10 Alienware

How big is the composition and what kind of content are you using in your various layers?

Just 1920x1080. When I use the same composition/show file and clips on my Mac I have no issues.

Can you describe your PC setup?

Have you installed QuickTime?

I've got an Alienware R3 15". 120GB SSD with 1TB HDD. All of my clips are stored on the 1TB HDD, wondering if this is the issue? Intel i7 7700HQ with GTX1070. Everything should be firing!

I suspect it's because you have long clips and you harddrive is having issues keeping up. In this day and age it's basically ssd or struggle.

Are all your clips on the hdd or ssd?

Installed a second M.2 SDD and have all my clips running off that instead of the 5400RPM HDD. Works flawlessly now.

I don't know if your computer has that option but you also might want to try the new Intel Optane to speed up your regular hard drives
