GTX 1060 + Quadro K2000 > 4 Outputs + GUI

Post by KristofNys »

I have a machine (Dell Precision 5610) with a NVIDIA Quadro K2000 + GTX 1060. What would be the best configuration to get 4 HD outputs (7680x1080) + an GUI (operator output) (apart from using a datapath Fx4....)?

- GUI on the Quadro K 2000 and 4 outputs on the GTX 1060 ?
- GUI on the GTX 1060 and 4 outputs on the Quadro K2000 (with an MST hub)?

Does resolume only use the GPU on which the GUI is shown, or does it use the GPU of the actual outputs?

Getting another 1060 to replace the Quadro is not an option as this would block the PCIe slot for the capture card.

Resolume outputs are rendered on the GPU that runs the GUI.
The rendered textures will then have to be transferred to the GPU doing the actual output, so that part will always come with a performance hit.
I'm not familiar with the Quadro's performance, but I think the 1060 with it's double core clock frequency will be much more powerful in rendering than the Quadro, but to be sure I'd just try out the setup both ways is you already have the hardware.

Here is the Performance Benchmarks thread where you can find some footage that can be used to make a comparable fps test between your and other's setups.

Quadro performs a lot worse and mixing outputs between drivers has caused more crashes for me in the past. Just use the 1060 unless you need synced outputs.

Thx for the advice. Running the 4 screens in the Quadro via MST hub does work (most of the time) but is quite buggy indeed.... I think ill just rent an Fx4 if i need 4 synced outputs then...

It turns out that i can actually run 4 HD outputs of the GTX 1060 AND use The quadro card for my gui. If i check the GPU usage, it is clearly using the GTX 1060 for all the hard work ( up to 50pct usage, where the K2000 card only runs at about 10pct). This allows me to run a 7680x1080 composition at 50fps with multiple 4 K content layers. BUT if i enable SPOUT , it throws an error and resolume locks up (and the only way to end it is to quit throu the task manger). That's a small disadvantage though....

So resolume always uses the video card of the GUI it doesn't do any processing on the 1060, the 1060 is just a dead card that does outputs. You can do it, but it's not suggested. If your primary desktop is the 1060 and your dragging the GUI over its vice versa of what I said. But resolume doesn't split the load.
