FPS drop in 6.1.4

Post by JKHall »

Hey all,

Ever since I've upgraded to 6.1.4, my FPS seems to run consistently lower and more unstable than in previous versions. It used to run a solid 60 fps with no clips and then maybe down to 40 fps with 27 video clips playing. Now its anywhere from 37-60 fps with nothing playing and 30 fps with 27 clips playing. Also had a couple crashes lately, which I've never had a problem with either.

My composition has 27 layers and 86 decks in it. The amount of layers hasn't changed in quite a few versions and I don't remember having issues with this before. The number of decks is always building as we add songs. I'm outputting to 58 DMX universes of LED tape, 51 of which are mapped twice for a total of 109 universes out of Resolume. I'm not outputting to any screens, just a 4k monitor for the Arena window.

All control during show is run from MA2 via DMX shortcuts. I do have a habit of using a Blank clip in the first column rather than using Clear. So usually there is something playing in all 27 layers, with most of them being Blanks. I never noticed a drop in performance doing this until 6.1.4, fps only dropped when playing actual video in most of the layers. I do wonder if if there's a more efficient way of doing this and I'm open to suggestions. If I could map the Clear DMX channel together with the Clip Select DMX channel, that would be one way to solve it, but I can't think of how to do that.

Computer running Resolume only runs Arena 6 during show. Spec's are i7-9700k, 64GB Ram, RTX 2080, 512GB NVMe SSD for software, 4TB SSD for video content. Recently ran another show with 16ish layers, 5 camera ins, 2 1080 outputs, and Notch with this same computer running 6.1.3. Expected a lower fps during this but it actually kept up above 50 fps. I installed a BlackMagic DeckLink Quad 2 for camera inputs for this. Had no trouble running it when I needed it. I disabled the card just in case that was causing an issue with 6.1.4 but nothing changed.

Thank you all for your help.

Can you try with the 6.1.3 release if it's back to original behavior?

You can get the installers for the older versions from our website.
Go to our download page, and scroll down.
You'll find version selector comboboxes, which have most previous releases.
Select the one you'd like and your download should start.

Was finally able to have time to downgrade to 6.1.3 and everything seems to be back to the way it was before 6.1.4. Pretty solid 60fps with no clips and around 40fps with 20 clips playing.

Hmm, that's weird.
Could you please send us the Resolume log file via the feedback tab in preferences?
Thanks!
