Nearest neighbor scaling

Post by Indigo »

Is it possible to upscale low-resolution clips so that the edges remain sharp? Maybe there could be some kind of a plugin for this?

I have a gig where I'll be showcasing low-resolution pixel art. So far, the only solution I've come up with is rendering the footage to match the projector's resolution using Adobe After Effects, but this feels like a terrible waste of resources.

Inside Resolume there is only a sharpen and blur effects which you could play around with, but they will probably not give you the desired results. Other options would be to look for AI Upscalers. There are several for after effects, online or standalone.. There is even one that's standard in after effect https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/u ... ffect.html this way you can scale up your image and hold crisp lines. Hope that helps you out

Sharp "nearest neighbor" upscaling was possible in earlier versions of Resolume

Thanks but this was not the issue. I don't want any AI upscaling, just bigger pixels, which can be easily done in Adobe After Effects. The problem is that when I convert something like 240x135 resolution graphics to 1920x1080, it's a waste of hard drive space and GPU.

You could make your composition size 240×135 and only resize your output to 1920x1080. Then everything will work on the small resolution. Just the last step will be scaled up.
