I noticed at PLASA this year the Chamsys guys (http://www.chamsys.co.uk) have got their lighting desk to pull back (static) preview images from media servers (they demo'd it with a hippotiser IIRC) they then produced this as pallet on the desk to making clip selection easier.
Whilst chatting to them it seemed like only a handful of media servers were doing this at the moment, and that they were trying to get it standardised -- now that DMX control is in resolume, it may be worth looking at adding this as it'd give resoulme a massive lead for live busking work when controling Lights and Video.
