I would like the option to swap the position of the layers and columns around. Right now I have my APC40 turned around 90 degs to the right so that my physical faders for each layer can match the software layer set up. This must be the case for all consumer midi controllers, as faders are usually in a row across the device and the faders in Resolume are stacked.
Do other VJs have a problem with this ? Or is it just my warped way of working things..
Layers V Columns
Re: Layers V Columns
turning the controller 90 degress is probably a LOT easier than redesigning the whole GUI for avenue

I totally agree, My set up just messes with my head whilst working Ableton and Resolume from the same controller. One softy has its layers going down, the other across.
Re: Layers V Columns
I think its just a question of getting used to it. A few hours of training should be enough.
I find the arrangement of the Resolume Layers perfect as now the top layer (in GUI) is the top layer (in visuals output). Also the arrangement of the APC (and other controllers) is great - as moving a fader up/down is easier than left/right - in a large group of faders. I tried that once for a gig, and it was simply a pain!

yes its confusing, i also have a hard time with it but its the nature of the beast
audio is percieved trough time and all sound is therefore arranged as paralel sequences
but visuals (animated or not) are primarily spatial, as something in front blocks whats behind it makes perfect sense to be in a stacked layout
nevertheless this is where versatile, modular\undockable and fully customizable layouts proove themselves usefull
