For the past 3 or 4 months I've been using the new HD7970 card on my main rig with mixed results.
1. With sync with horizontal rate enabled after load up 3 or 4 layers I get 20 fps, with it disabled I get 70-90fps. It should lock to 60fps if I'm outputting 60 htz.
2. Can't load driver version higher then 12.4. Advanced output blinks if I do.
3. Card failed on me during a setup. Thank God I had a backup system with my older quadro 4700x2 or I'd would have been .... Asus replaced the card via rma within 3 days.
The reason I purchased this card is because I often use all 6 outputs and from what I understand Resolume can only access one gpu. Today's show I'm using 8 monitors, which I'm accomplishing with 2 triplehead2go's. 9600x1080 and managing 54fps.
My question that I'd like to pose the forum is, I'm ready to replace my back machines graphics card. An older Quadro FX4700x2. Should I purchase a second hd7970 or should I consider a new FirePro w8000 card at $1200.
My undstanding is that the FirePro cards and Readon Card use identical parts, but the driver available for the FirePro cards perform significantly faster in pro/CAD applications. (seems like a throttling scam to me). And the firepro cards are considerably more expensive. (w9000 card which looks like 2 7970 chips is going to sell for 4 thousand dollars.)
My understanding is that Resolume is an OpenGL application.
Thoughts?
Radeon VS FirePro
Re: Radeon VS FirePro
Maybe a simpler question is....
Is anyone using a firepro card, and how is your experience with the pro card?
