MIDI Troubles on Windows 11 with MIDI 2.0 update

Did you experience issues with MIDI controllers and Resolume since the latest Windows updates? Then the chances are high that this is related to the latest updates where Microsoft rolls out their new MIDI 2.0 implementation for Windows 11 users.

While this comes with some cool new features like multiclient support and internal loopback, it unfortunately brings some bugs as well, so we recommend to avoid that Windows update until those early bugs are fixed.

Before troubleshooting, we'd first recommend checking out if you actually have that update installed, Microsoft provides a small tool to check that for you:

Download enablement checker

Once confirmed that you have the new MIDI services on your machine, there are two ways to deal with issues that we found so far:

Uninstall Windows Update

This is probably the best solution to avoid all bugs that are there at the moment. You can roll out this update and wait with installing until there are fixes available.

From what we found out these features came either with 2026-01 Preview Update (KB5074105) (26200.7705) or with 2026-02 Preview Update (KB5077241) (26200.7922), but possible that those come in another update for your machine so I'd look for the latest preview update if those are both not installed but the MIDI services are there.

To uninstall go to Windows Update > Update history and see if you find one of the updates mentioned above.

If you do find those that update, go to Uninstall updates below. Select the correct update number and click Uninstall

Confirm on the popup. Restart your PC when prompted to do and you should be good to go.

Update Driver for your MIDI Controller

The second option is to not completely revert that Windows update but to change only the MIDI driver for your controller via device manager, here is how to do that:

Go to Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers and find your MIDI controller. Right click and select Update Driver.

Next select Browse my computer for drivers.

Choose Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.

Select the USBMidi2-ACX driver and click next.

Now unplug and re-plug your MIDI controller, launch Resolume and check if it acts as expected.
