Syncing with a DJ via SMPTE only makes sense if you have a set of prepared video tracks that match to the tracks that the DJ will play during his set. If this is the case for you, you can contact http://www.tcsupply.eu/ for their solution to sync a Pioneer CDJ to Resolume via SMPTE.

I am working with a DJ to create a live show that has pre-made loops to fit with his set song structures. We need the loops to be automatically triggered at exact points in the songs. We can map midi controller notes to clips BUT when trying to input a note trigger into the timeline of Ableton so that this auto triggers a clip at an exact moment this does not work. Should we be using BPM sync this way, or SMPTE? Help would be much appreciated. Thanks

To avoid confusion: SMPTE only syncs the video to the music, it doesn't trigger the clips! The same counts for BPm sync. "We can map midi controller notes to clips BUT when trying to input a note trigger into the timeline of Ableton so that this auto triggers a clip at an exact moment this does not work." It should work. Lets solve this via email :)
